2014 Motor Trend Car of the Year: Cadillac CTS

Since the inception of the Cadillac brand at the turn of the century, the phrase “standard of the world” has been used as a golden line of success in the auto industry. Winning numerous awards and titles while never compromising quality and comfort, the Cadillac name is known as an all around winner.

This year is no exception.

With the introduction of the all new and redesigned 2014 CTS came a lot of questions and now we have one answer. The Cadillac CTS, the flagship of the storied brand, is now Motor Trend Magazine’s 2014 Car of the Year.

The magazine ranks new to the market or reshaped models for the upcoming year. This limits the contest to an overall quality test and less a side by side comparison. The vehicles are put through rigorous tests to determine the best in six categories: safety, value, efficiency, advancement in design, engineering excellence, and performance of intended function.

In each the category outperformed the field that was rich with entries from BMW, Fiat, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, and Toyota. By balancing affordability with dynamic power (an available 420 hp twin turbo is available in the V-Sport), each package level and option brings reason to a car world filled will options.

Twice in six years the CTS has brought home this storied award to the halls of Cadillac in the city of Detroit. This award brings a great bookend for the city which was hit the hardest by the recent recession. The storied Cadillac shield is once again at the front of the pack and has put Germany on notice: American horsepower is coming, and in style.

Scranton Motors at the Movies: Ten Greatest Marquee Movie Cars

Great movies leave great impressions. What makes that impression so effective is one facet of the film that grabs you and takes center stage. Sometimes it is the strikingly beautiful leading lady or the majestic landscapes of a far off world. There are some movies however, that take a hold of you with a car. It could be a an old rambler of a truck or animated race car, these vehicles steal the spotlight. This countdown is of the greatest cars that have shared a brand with our marquee: Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac. Each has their own level of appeal and each is unforgettable.

10. 1949 Buick Roadmaster, Rain Man, 1988

The travels of Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise in this classic Buick are unforgettable and becomes a bond for the brothers and for the audience.

9. 1982 GMC Sierra, The Fall Guy, 1981-1986

Every single episode of the Lee Majors classic inflicted damage on his custom Sierra. The dozens of trucks used during filming is still a benchmark for modern automotive work in cinema.

8. 2006 GMC Topkick Warrior (Ironhide), Transformers, 2007

OK, so this over sized GMC is a monster without any modifications, but the fact that it is actually a Transformer brings a whole new level to the slogan "We Are Professional Grade".

7. 1994 Oldsmobile Silhouette, Get Shorty, 1995

In the opening scenes of Get Shorty, the hapless director orders a rental Cadillac but is instead given this van. By the end of the movie, this Oldsmobile becomes the "must have".

6. 1964 Cadillac Deville, 48 Hrs, 1982

Eddie Murphy was launched into stardom after taking a leading role opposite Nick Nolte and his rough ride of a Cadillac Deville. "The 'ole banana in the tailpipe" becomes an instant catchphrase.

5. 1971 Pontiac Lemans, The French Connection, 1971

1971 was a big year for the Lemans, becoming a full model on the Pontiac table. This timeless dash after an elevated train in Brooklyn turned this Gene Hackman classic into a true car chase movie.

4. 1983 GMC Vandura, The A-Team, 1983-1987

What is the A-Team without their signature van? The gang of military experts on the run were never far from their trusted GMC. After being shot at, drifted, and jumped off of a ledge, this van is a definite part of the group.

3. 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, Smokey and the Bandit, 1977

The classic "protect the tractor trailer truck on the illegal cargo run across state lines" movie was turned on its head with this monster Pontiac. The screaming golden eagle on any Trans Am is instantly associated with this movie.

2. 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, Knight Rider, 1982-1986

The most parodied talking car in history, KIT was the right hand man to David Hasselhoff in this '80's television series. Note: The voice of KIT is William Daniels, the same actor who played George Feeny on Boy Meets World.

1. 1959 Cadillac Ecto-1, Ghostbusters, 1984

"It just needs a little work..." This modified Miller-Meteora Futura is instantly recognizable and is the signature piece of the classic movie pair. If this car is parked in your driveway, you definitely knew who to call.

Innovation, Power, and Performance: The General's Design

Scranton Motors is a dealership rooted in the past with eyes on the future. With the modern renaissance General Motors has been staging- the design, features, and overall presence have shifted greatly in a forward thinking manner-it is nice to see some gems of the past. Today, we look back on a few American classics, each bringing innovation, performance, and power to the fabled brands we so proudly display on our marquee.

1970 Buick GS Stage 1
In late 1960’s and early 1970’s, car companies in the United States were producing what the consumer base wanted: American muscle. From the Chevelle to “The Judge” to the Mustang, every corner had a low rumble and every red light was just another green flag. General Motors led the charge with three dominating examples of the times, the first being the 1970 Buick GS Stage 1. Perhaps best known for the controversy stirred when, in the early 1980’s, the GS was named “faster than any production Hemi”, the GS is a very rare, very exciting automobile. Featuring the fabled 455 motor, this restyled Buick featured a prominent stance, traditional styling like an all leather interior and cloth top, as well the “Gran Sport” badges.

1976 Cadillac Seville
Cadillac had long been a storied name in the automotive community. Having advanced the car world forward with the electronic starter, the wreathed crest was known for always being three steps ahead. In 1975, Cadillac introduced the 1976 Seville, the world’s first mass produced fuel injection motor and a breakthrough for the industry. The system was a simple design but a brilliant move towards the future. The idea was born at General Motors, but was created after combining with the development teams of the Bendix and Bosch corporations. Making these steps, Cadillac introduced the world to the idea of the car and the computer combining forces. It is this progress that helped launch CUE, the world’s most interactive vehicle system, used in the modern Cadillac fleet.

1976 GMC 2500 Classic 3+3 Crew Cab Wideside
GMC has long been the name in trucking. From Humble Midwest beginnings, to becoming General Motors second most successful brand in 2007. GMC fans have long remained with the brand, even when developments lagged behind the demand for new and exciting trucks. In the late 1970’s General Motors answered the call and made two large introductions into their designs: a crew cab and a dual axle. Adapting to the shift in trucks from cargo haulers to people carriers, GMC redesigned the popular brand. A truck owner could now tow like never before, while riding in style with a padded interior and four of his closest companions. GMC guaranteed that during the turn of the decade they were still the one and only brand to beat.

As always, Scranton Motors is proud to look back and relive the glory days. Family owned and operated since 1952, we are the small town dealer with the superstore selection.

2014 Cadillac CTS: The New Sheriff in Town

There is a low rumble growing on the horizon. The sound is not from an approaching army or a strong thunder. The sound you are hearing, like a renegade herd in the Wild West, is the sound of hundreds of horses storming right towards you. The dust barrels behind the mass hurtling itself towards you in a great cloud, the ground shakes and you begin to wonder how this force will stop before it reaches you.

And then, without warning, the cloud stops at your feet. After the dust settles, the horses’ brand exposes itself in shining glory, and it all makes sense. These mighty steeds…are from Detroit.

The 2014 Cadillac CTS is a vision, straight from a western, and into your driveway. The longer, leaner, faster CTS is sure to compete strongly and ferociously with the midsize sedan market. Offered in three trim packages-luxury, performance, and premium-the CTS is a shining example of the 21st century resurgence of the brand. Cadillac is fighting and winning the battle to expand their client base into a younger, more tech savvy audience while maintaining classic charm.

Features like Magnetic Ride Control, the world’s most advanced suspension system, and an uncompromising interior design featuring the award winning CUE system, make the 2014 Cadillac CTS one of the most anticipated vehicles of this year.

As always, Scranton Motors is your home for anything and everything Cadillac. Keep your eyes on the horizon for more news on the 2014 Cadillac CTS.

The All New 2014 GMC Sierra

In a few short months we’ll be seeing the all new Sierras drop and we cannot wait! Newly designed, the 2014 GMC Sierra is hosting a bevy of changes both inside and out, prompting many to call this the most evolved and powerful truck for GMC yet. The new, bolder body design catches the eye like no Sierra to date and draws anyone inside to a completely refurbished interior. By adding the most fuel efficient V8 motors to an industry leading list of standard features the 2014 GMC Sierra is surely not to disappoint even the most demanding of truck owners.

In comparison to recent versions of the Sierra, GMC is removing the “work truck” from the title and moving towards a streamlined approach from start to finish. General Motors wants anyone to know that Sierra means “hard work”. By introducing GM’s award winning Intellilink system into a new, sturdier dash means that any and everyone using a Sierra has the tools necessary to get the job done.

Springtime Driving Tips

Springtime Driving Tips

Now that we have made it through the worst of the New England weather it’s time to break out the flip flops and get ready for the warmer weather. What do you do to prepare for the spring and summer months? Maybe you go shopping for new shorts and tank tops, or perhaps you work on your tan but don’t forget your car needs to be ready too! We have come up with a few tips on how to make sure your car is ready for those summer road trips and warm driving weather.

1. Remember that spring showers bring flowers, but they also bring wet driving conditions. Slow down on slick roads! Even a small amount of water can mix with oil and grease on the road and make for slippery driving surface.

2. Warm weather brings out motorcyclists, bicyclists and joggers. Share the road and be aware of your new friends!

3. New spring potholes are always a concern. Water from rain and snow gets underneath the pavement and creates cracks and potholes that are ready to slow down your summer fun. Potholes can throw your car out of alignment.
4. Tune up! Don’t just tune your radio into the summer hits make sure your car is tuned too. Get your vehicles into a carwash and get rid of all the dirt and salt from the winter. Check your oil and rotate your tires too! If you would like to schedule service with us please click HERE!

5. Allergy season is upon us! Be aware of the medications you are taking for allergies. Many of the over the counter medications have side effects that can impair your driving abilities.

We are sure you will agree that summer road trips are the best! Whether it’s a trip across the country or just to the local beach you and your car should be ready for the journey. Here are some helpful guidelines for your trips.

· Sign up for a roadside assistance program such as Onstar! They are smart to have when traveling. They can provide towing and battery service as well as fuel delivery and lockout service. When you’re far from home roadside assistance is a great safety net!

· Bring cash as well as credit cards. Do not assume you will always have access to an ATM. Also taking money out from your bank beforehand can really help with keeping those ATM fees at bay.

· Invest in a navigation system! Many new vehicles have navigation systems in them already but if yours does not make sure you purchase one. Being far from home is one thing, but being far from home and lost is a totally new game!

We hope that these tips will help you have a safe and fun summer season! Now get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather!

Eco-Friendly Cars!

Eco-Friendly Cars!

“Our vision is to design, build, and sell the world’s best vehicles and we’re committed to doing that with our customers and environment in mind.” – General Motors

With the economy and environment being such a concern these days GM has made it their mission to help customers become “greener” on the road. With advanced technology and an eco-friendly vision they are working to create vehicles that will not only benefit the driver but the environment as well. GM knows that their customers are concerned about their carbon footprint, and so they have been busy reinventing their vehicles.

Seventeen Gm models including all of their full-size SUV’s are equipped with active fuel management. This fuel saving technology enables a V8 engine to operate on half the engine’s cylinders when full power is not needed. By using this technology fuel economy is improved by as much as 12%.

Direct injection engines are another way GM has designed to give better fuel economy. Every 2012 Buick including the Regal and Lacrosse uses this precise fuel delivery equipment giving better gas mileage and reducing emissions. GM is the global leader in producing FlexFuel cars. Flexfuel model cars are vehicles that run on E-85 (ethanol). Ethanol burns cleaner, therefore lowering emissions and giving the driver peace of mind about their carbon footprint.

General Motors also kept their business owner customers in mind too. Offering GNG and LPG powered vans that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The GMC Savana Cargo and Savana Cutaway are two of the vehicles offered.

Probably the most exciting technology that GM has come up with is eAssist. As electrification machinery it combines start and stop technology with regenerative braking. This means that the car automatically shuts off the gas when braking and the engine will stop and restart when in stop and go traffic, giving better fuel economy. EAssist also has an onboard lithium-ion battery to provide an electronic boost in certain conditions to also improve fuel economy.

Most of this new Technology can be found in vehicles like the

Buick Regal

Buick Lacrosse

Buick Verano

GMC Terrain

GMC Sierra

GMC Yukon Denali

Cadillac ATS

Cadillac SRX

Cadillac Escalade

Tips for Safe Winter Driving

With the weather men predicting 1 to 2 feet of snow we can count on tricky wintery roads these next two days. If you do not have to drive, then stay in the safety of your home. Those of us, who are obligated to drive out during the rough weather, be sure to drive SAFELY. Here are some tips for how to handle those treacherous winter roads. The most important tip we can give you is to make sure your car is winterized and ready to take on the winter weather. The safest way to tackle wintery roads is to do your prep work before you take the car on the road.

Begin by turning on your front and rear defrosters to soften the ice on your windshield. This will also help warm the inside of the car while you work on the outside. Do not under any circumstance use hot water unless you like the shattered glass look. Scrap the ice off the windows using a plastic scrapper, they are less likely to damage and scratch your windows. Before you head out onto the salt and sand covered roads make sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid. Make sure you clean the car off completely. Snow left on the roof could fly off into traffic or worse slide down onto the windshield blocking your view of the road. Check they tail pipe for snow and clear it out if there is any. Carbon Monoxide is no laughing matter and if the tail pipe is blocked while you’re cleaning outside the car could be filling with it on the inside. Finally brush off your mirrors, headlights, and tail lights. Seeing is absolutely necessary in bad weather.

Now that you’re ready to drive here are some helpful tips on how to stay safe on the roads.

Slow down! On winter roads your following distance should be a full 8-10 seconds (about 4 car lengths). Slipping and sliding is a big problem if you find yourself sliding just follow these steps.

· Don't panic

· Don't slam on the breaks

· Take your foot off the gas

· Turn the wheel in the direction you want to go

· Wait till the car slows down eough for you to regain control

Accelerating and decelerating slowly will help you maintain traction. Slow and steady will win the race. Don’t power up hills it may cause your tires to spin and you to slide. Don’t Stop! If you can avoid stopping do it. The chances of your tires spinning increase if you are at a full stop as opposed to a slow roll. Most importantly stay home! The best way to keep you and your family safe is to simply stay off the roads.

While all cars are able to drive in the snow cars that offer all wheel drive or four wheel drive are recommened. Vehicles like the new GMC Acadia or Buick Enclave are always good choices.

Just in Case!

It is important to be prepared! Having an emergency winter driving kit in your car is highly recommended. Keep the kit in the backseat of on the floor as opposed to the trunk to avoid having to get out of the vehicle. Your winter emergency kit should contain the following.

1. Bottled water

2. Extra set of winter clothes (hats, scarves, gloves, etc.)

3. Blankets or a small sleeping bag

4. Flashlight

5. Batteries

6. Snacks

7. First aid kit
